This morning at approximately 1:45 am
C. Cockerham
Our 17-year-old son
Pulled over for speeding
Arrested on a warrant
He was on the run again
I wrote this for him:
“UP IN SMOKE’
Smoke is but a memory
A memory of the flame
Who’s gonna be there
Remembering your name
Up in smoke
A lot alike
That’s what I like about you
What you go through
I go through it too
The road you travel
I’ve been down
Hurts real bad
When your head hits the ground
Apologizing
For the things you’ve done
No more fun
Like when it began
Up in smoke
It’s not about the world
It’s about you
Stand up Stand tall
Do what you can do
By your own hand
You gotta make that stand
The streets demand
Player or fan
On the run
Couldn’t bring that home
Everyone has got your back
But you are standing all alone
Up in smoke
Now jail cells
I know them just too well
Feeling defeated
How do you tell
What you know
Actions just don’t show
It’s time to go
But time it goes too slow
Forced to wait
Determine your fate
What I’m trying to say
Before it’s too late
This is but a journey
You come and you go
Don’t let your life
Go up in smoke
Up in smoke
Up in smoke
Up in smoke
Smoke is but a memory
A memory of the flame
Who’s gonna be there
Remembering your name
Up In Smoke
(we love you buddy—mom and dad)
